Nothing like being back in Tokyo. This is my sixth Summer in a row traveling out to Japan to decompress and find my energy. Every year feels like the very first time I made my way out in 2014. Thanks to new and old friends, my solo travels to this magical land feels no different than home…
Tokyo Game Show
My trip back to Japan started at Tokyo Game Show, the world’s largest video game convention. I’m not a stranger to TGS, I normally try to plan my travels to Tokyo around it because it’s not only a place to experience gaming and cosplay, but it also gives amazing insight to Japanese culture when it comes to what forms of media is being consumed out there. Currently working at the intersections of art and tech(lol), this convention has always been a great way for me to sneak in some R&D.
AFTERL-IFE WORLD
I’ve been a huge fan of Mad Dog Jones for quite a while. When I heard he was having his first exhibition “AFTERL-IFE WORLD.” at Diesal Art Gallery in Shibuya, I had to go!
Tokyo Kickback
What made this trip extra special? All my new and old friends that I hung out with throughout my three weeks here. This being my sixth time in Japan, I’m very grateful that I have a small circle of buddies I hang out with. This also includes friends not only from Nihon, but from other places in the world as well. Having a kickback in outside of Los Angeles made me feel at home.
Flylo
My buddies @Timeboy and @Strangeloop invited me out to catch the 3D visuals they did for Flying Lotus’ latest tour. Every visuals was a mind-boggling smack in the face.
CIiiRCLE + The Flavr Blue
My last night in Japan ended with seeing my musician friends, CIRRRCLE and The Flavr Blue put on an amazing performance. It was a magical night - Shouts to Mari!
