Haiti: day three 5/17/2011

Sorry for the delay, I’ve been trying to get back in motion with my life in LA. It’s not easy being gone from home and work for a week.

It’s been weird being back in LA, I look at everything a bit differently now. I feel like none of us have it that hard – Of course we have issues when it comes to friends, work, money, relationships, school or whatever we have issues with these days, but nothing compares to their problems. To be honest, the people of Haiti wished they had our problems(sorry for being such a downer)… With that being said, here’s the last post about my trip to Haiti…

img_0646 We spent our last day mostly sightseeing.

img_0663 It’s crazy to see how much damage could come from a natural disaster.

img_0723 Once we finished grabbing souvenirs, we were off to an orphanage. On our way there we popped a tire. Luckily, there were Haitians who were able to repair the tube(for only $2.50!!).

img_0771 The orphanage was the hardest part of the trip for me. Seeing a kid who doesn’t have parents is way more heartbreaking than any destroyed structure.

My trip to Haiti with Zodiac USA/Brown Shoes and Souls4Soles is one I would never forget. It was an amazing first time out of the country experience. It was great because it wasn’t a vacation, it was meant to be a learning experience , and that’s what exactly I got out of it. Super thanks to Melissa, S4s, Todd, and everyone on the trip who made it great for me!

Totally forgot that I was apart of the video production crew last year at EDC 2010. The trailer to said event was sent to me in an email this week and I saw a decent amount of shots I filmed in it. Check the vid out below.

Haiti: day two 5/16/2011

Day two in Haiti…

img_0167

img_0565

img_0199 We had to be out of the house by 8:30am to trek it out to the top of the mountain to distribute shoes to the students of MTM(the school/church).

img_0426

img_0362

img_0349 We gave away about 700+ pairs of shoes. It wasn’t an easy task because we had to take down their shoe size, wash their feet(I skipped that part), and I find shoes that they would like(that was only for the older kids)

Haiti: day one 5/15/2011

Getting out of the states for the first time was definitely one of my new years resolutions, I’m glad that it went through *checks that off the list*. We Melissa(Zodiac USA), Todd(Brown Shoes), and the Brown Shoes team, teamed up with Soles4Souls organization to service shoes out to Haitians at orphanages and schools…

img_0080 My jaw was fully dropped when we were flying from Miami to Haiti(Port au Prince). I’ve never flown overseas and I was awaiting my first time stepping in another country.

img_0100 After going through customs and immigrations with the Sole4Souls crew, we were then on our way to the place that we were going to be sleeping for the next couple of days. I was more than excited to be in a new country, but I then remembered that I wasn’t just in any country… I was in Haiti, a third-world country – The poorest country in the western hemisphere.

img_0099

img_0111

img_0116 This wasn’t a vacation for me(us) and I had to get that in my head immediately. I’m here to put smiles on kids faces and pick-up a lifestyle that I could share with others once I come back to the states.

img_0134 Our housing was at MTM aka Mountain Top Ministries. To be honest, I expected us to be living in something less amazing. This was a super nice stay for us. Once arriving to MTM, we were given a rundown on how things were going to go down in Haiti, I was stoked and so was everyone else in the group. Get ready for DAY 2!!

LAX>MIA>HAITI Pt. 2

Traveling to Haiti from Los Angeles isn’t an easy one, especially with a 9 hour layaway in Miami…

sdim0090 Being in the Miami airport with Melissa was boring times. Miami was far too humid for us to go out and enjoy..

sdim0093 I was more than excited to get on the plane after being stuck in Miami doing nothing for 9hrs.

sdim0095 It was finally time to get over to Haiti…

[UPDATE]

Sorry, I accidentally deleted Pt. 1 of this post, will repost later.
